The third annual Backyard Gardening Expo is hosted by the Verde Thumbs Garden Club in partnership with Gardens for Humanity and will be held on Sunday, March 20th from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm. This will be the final day of the Spring Planting Festival. You are invited to this free event to hear lectures and meet local vendors that will answer your gardening questions.
Dr. Patrick Pynes will talk about Bees and Their Place in the Garden at 2:15 pm.
Dan Wetzel will present Drip Irrigation and Water Features at 3:15 pm.
Chris Anderson will speak about Harvesting Rainwater and Grey Water at 4:15 pm.
Demonstrations by members of the Verde Thumbs Garden Club will occur throughout the afternoon and include: seed starting, transplanting, container gardening, composting, organic disease and insect control, and harvesting information.
Other topics that you can learn about from local vendors include: seasonal planting, wildlife and gardens, irrigation management, low water crops, and gardening without using harmful chemicals.
You will also have an opportunity to purchase seeds, soil amendments and other supplies at booths inside and outside of the theater at Old Town Center for the Arts.
Participants include Windmill Gardens Nursery, Seeds Trust, Verde Solar Works, Verde River Growers, Heartstone Farms, Thunderfoot Seeds, and the Iris Society.
