J.W. Everitt
Once in awhile a talent comes along that is so fresh and exciting that it eludes categorization. J. W. Everitt is such an artist. His eclectic style and song writing skills make him one of the most versatile performers on tour today. The music is a blend of jazz, rock, blues, country, and soft tones, and his ability to play guitar is beyond words. After a distinguished career extending over 15 years, as a sideman, engineer and session player, J.W. has returned to his roots as a singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist extraordinaire. The new release from J.W. Everitt titled In The Moment on Somali Records combines the artistry of J. W. with guitar virtuoso Wayne Johnson of Manhattan Transfer fame to create a musical image so vivid you will feel as if you are surrounded by the musicians themselves. W. Fry of Rock and Roll News stated, “J. W. has accomplished more on his first solo release than most artists on their third or fourth try.” J. W. Everitt spent a period of his life playing the blues, doing stints with Willie Dixon, Mighty Joe Young, Luther Allison, Son Seals, and developing a special friendship with Hound Dog Taylor. His music still retains that early blues edge, but now it has an acoustic timbre. He developed long-lasting friendships with my contemporaries in the midwest at that time: Leo Kotke, Michael Johnson and John Hartford, to name a few. He moved to Paris tohone his Jazz skills. JW released his CD In the Moment to show off his various genre skills. In recent years, he has returned to his roots as a serious jazz and blues musician, once again incorporating the electric guitar into his performances. J. W., an internationally renowned recording artist, has allied himself with the Snow Leopard Society to promote its charitable and educational goals. As a guitarist, song writer and singer, J.W. plays handmade custom guitars with exquisite inlay portraits of the cats he so dearly loves. He wrote Leopard’s Lament, a hauntingly beautiful instrumental featured on his award-winning CD, In the Moment, to highlight the plight of the big cats.
